Wood Fibre Insulation Boards
Nordic Fibreboard produces only the highest quality natural wood fibre insulation boards from local source materials. Thanks to our natural woodfibre materials, the construction industry can significantly reduce both operational and embodied carbon, providing sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for our building industry.
Find the right product by area of use
Nordic Fibreboard’s wood fibre insulation boards are low-density softboards for wall, roof, floor and interior applications. Their porous fibre structure can support thermal and acoustic comfort, while vapour-open material behaviour makes them relevant to moisture-aware construction. Choose by the board’s intended function and verify the complete build-up against current technical documentation before specification.
Product value
Nordic Fibreboard produced softboards consist of 100% natural wood fibre
Thermal Insulation – Nordic Fibreboard’s natural wood fibre insulation boards provide excellent thermal insulation, reduce energy costs and improve the building’s energy efficiency.
Acoustic Insulation – Our natural wood fibre insulation boards offer superior sound absorption, making them ideal for improving acoustic performance in buildings, reducing noise transmission between rooms or from external sources.
A Sustainable Building Material – Made from renewable resources and free of synthetic chemicals, our natural wood fibre insulation boards support eco-friendly construction practices while meeting the high performance standards of modern building materials.
Biodegradable and recyclable
Natural wood fibre insulation boards are fully biodegradable and recyclable, supporting waste reduction and promoting a circular economy within the construction industry.
Chemical-free production
The production process of natural wood fibre insulation boards utilises the timber’s natural lignin as a binder, eliminating the need for harmful chemicals and adhesives, thereby minimising our environmental impact.
Renewable resource
Natural wood fibre insulation boards are made from natural wood fibre, promoting the use of renewable materials in construction and reducing our dependence on non-renewable resources.
Reduced carbon footprint
By incorporating natural wood fibre insulation boards, companies can significantly lower their projects’ total carbon footprint, achieving sustainable building practices and environmental goals.
Improved indoor air quality
Natural wood fibre insulation boards contribute to better indoor air quality by avoiding volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making them a healthy material choice for people and pets.

* Reference: The data about materials known and used in the construction field is not related to any specific manufacturer’s products
** Values can vary based on the specific product, density, thickness, and surface treatment
*** Risk values: low– materials with very minimal or no health impact during normal use, containing few or no harmful chemicals or fibers, and with low VOC emissions; moderate-materials that may cause mild health issues (e.g., irritation) when handled improperly, containing chemicals or fibers that can irritate the respiratory system
Reducing Carbon, One Building at a Time
Natural insulation boards for more than one performance need
Wood fibre insulation boards give designers, builders and distributors a practical way to combine an insulating layer with the additional qualities of a porous wood-based material. Depending on product and thickness, these boards can contribute to thermal resistance, sound absorption, impact-sound reduction and protection against unwanted air movement through insulation. Their low weight and machinability also support efficient handling on site.
The material is particularly useful when the project follows vapour-open construction principles. Wood fibre can absorb and release moisture in response to surrounding conditions, but this does not make every board or assembly moisture-proof. Good performance depends on correct hygrothermal design, airtightness, weather protection, ventilation, installation and drying potential. For renovation and timber construction, these interactions should be assessed across the whole structure rather than attributed to one layer.
Choose wood fibre insulation boards by application
For walls, Nordic Fibreboard offers products for wind-protection and insulating layers, including ISOplaat, ISOmodul and ProWind variants. The correct board depends on whether the layer is external or internal, the required thickness, exposure, fixing method and the rest of the wall build-up.
For roofs, relevant wood fibre insulation boards can add insulation and help protect the insulation layer from air movement when used in their documented application. The roof covering, underlay, ventilation, vapour control and structural layers must still be designed as a system. Do not assume that a board may remain exposed or replace another control layer unless the current product documentation explicitly permits it.
For floors, softboards can be useful as underlays, impact-sound layers, minor surface-levelling layers or additional insulation in suitable assemblies. They are not a substitute for a load-bearing subfloor. Check floor finish compatibility, point loads, moisture conditions and compression requirements before choosing a product.
Multipurpose boards extend the category into interior renovation, attics, ceilings, partitions, door cores and manufactured acoustic or furniture solutions. WAXboard and ISOpakk serve specialist joint-filler and packaging applications rather than conventional building insulation.
What makes Nordic Fibreboard's softboard different?
Nordic Fibreboard has manufactured wood fibre materials in Estonia since 1945. In the wet process, mechanically refined fibres are mixed with water, formed into a mat and dried; the wood’s natural lignin binds the fibre structure without added synthetic resin binders. Product-specific additives and finishes vary, so each board must be assessed on its own documentation rather than by a blanket material claim.
Our product range is intended for professional decision-making. Use the category pages to narrow the application, then review the product data sheet, declaration of performance, certificates and installation information. Where the application is unusual or the project has demanding regulatory or environmental conditions, speak with our team before specification.
