Category description

One material family, several distinct product roles

Multipurpose boards are valuable because wood-fibre softboard is lightweight, processable and naturally porous. That does not mean one board should be used for every task. Nordic Fibreboard’s multipurpose boards cover three different starting points, allowing customers to match the product to a building application or manufacturing process.

ISOplaat ECO+ is the construction and renovation-oriented option. In suitable applications, it can be used as a floor underlay or as an additional wood-fibre layer in walls, ceilings and attics. Its fibre structure can contribute to impact-sound reduction, thermal comfort and minor surface levelling. The exact floor finish, load, moisture condition and assembly remain decisive.

FILLboard is designed as a door-core and industrial core material. It gives door and component manufacturers a low-density wood-fibre base for repeatable production. Acoustic, mechanical, fire and other performance belongs to the completed door or product, so claims should be validated at finished-product level.

Interior – ISOplaat is a processable softboard for interior products, furniture components, partitions and acoustic concepts. Its porous structure makes it a useful substrate where sound absorption potential and low weight matter. It should not be called a structural furniture board unless a specific design and test evidence support that role.

Design flexibility for professional manufacturers

Wood-fibre multipurpose boards can be cut, shaped, perforated, laminated or finished according to the customer’s process and the board’s capabilities. This flexibility supports wall treatments, room dividers, notice and display products, upholstered components, acoustic elements and other interior concepts. Surface quality, tolerances, machining, bonding, coating, fasteners and final-use conditions should be tested before serial production.

For custom product development with multipurpose boards, begin with a clear brief: final use, board function, dimensions, target density or weight, machining, surface treatment, regulatory market, performance targets and forecast volume. Samples and prototypes should be evaluated in the complete product, not only as an unprocessed board.

Natural fibre, precise claims

Nordic Fibreboard’s wet-process softboard core is formed using the wood’s natural lignin without added synthetic resin binders. Product-specific additives, coatings or laminations may still be present, and any “free from”, emissions, biodegradability or recycling statement must therefore relate to the exact supplied product and intended waste route.

The fibre structure can support sound absorption and moisture buffering, but room acoustic performance and indoor-air claims require product- or assembly-specific evidence. Nordic Fibreboard has recent emissions testing for selected samples; publication should follow the approved scope and classification status rather than extending one test to the entire category.

Choose, test and document

Use the product pages to compare ISOplaat ECO+, FILLboard and Interior – ISOplaat. Review the current data sheet and available certificates, then discuss non-standard formats or industrial processing with Nordic Fibreboard. For a new application, run practical manufacturing and finished-product trials before confirming the specification.
