Wall Insulation Boards
wall insulation boards support different roles in external and internal wall build-ups, from protecting insulation against unwanted air movement to adding a rigid wood-fibre layer for thermal and acoustic comfort.

Choose wall insulation boards by their role in the wall
A wall is a system of layers, and each layer has a defined job. The right wall insulation boards therefore depend on where the board sits, what it must contribute and how the wall manages structure, wind, rain, air leakage, water vapour, heat and sound.
Wind Barrier Board – ISOplaat and ProWind – ISOplaat are intended for wind-protection or sheathing-type applications in relevant external wall and timber-frame build-ups. Their role is to help protect the insulation layer from wind and cold-air movement while supporting a vapour-open envelope. They are non-structural softboards unless a current, application-specific approval states otherwise. Joint treatment, fixing, exposure and cladding details must follow the relevant documentation.
Insulation Board – ISOplaat and thicker ISOmodul boards are relevant where the design needs an additional wood-fibre insulation or acoustic layer in suitable wall or interior applications. Their porous structure can contribute to thermal and acoustic comfort, and their low weight makes them practical to cut and handle. Final performance depends on thickness, continuity, adjacent materials and workmanship.
Why use wood fibre in wall build-ups?
Wood fibre combines several useful material behaviours. It provides thermal resistance and has a heat-storage capacity that can support more stable indoor conditions when designed as part of the full envelope. Its fibre structure can absorb sound energy, helping complete wall assemblies improve acoustic comfort. It is also hygroscopic and vapour-open, so it can buffer and release moisture within a correctly designed construction.
These benefits need careful wording. Wall insulation boards do not by themselves make a wall airtight, waterproof, soundproof or immune to mould. Airtightness belongs on the designated air-control layer; bulk water must be managed by the facade and weather-resistive layers; and moisture safety depends on the whole wall’s drying potential, ventilation and indoor conditions.
New build, timber frame and renovation
Nordic Fibreboard’s wall insulation boards can be considered for timber-frame construction, energy upgrades and renovation where natural, processable and vapour-open materials are preferred. In older buildings, investigate the existing wall, moisture sources, salts, finishes and ventilation before adding insulation. In new construction, coordinate the board with structural sheathing, membranes, services, fixings, cladding and fire strategy.
For distributors and contractors, the category offers a clear product pathway: first decide whether the project needs a wind barrier or an insulation layer; then select the product and thickness; finally confirm documentation and system details. This is more reliable than treating all softboards as interchangeable.
